Sodium Blood Test, The sodium blood test measures the concentration of sodium in the blood sodium can also be measured using a urine test. A Sodium test is a routine test that allows the doctor to see how much sodium level is in your blood. It is also called sodium serum ted: Sodium is an essential mineral of your body. Sodium is particularly important for nerve and muscle function. Your body keeps sodium in balance through a variety of mechanisms. Sodium gets into your blood through food and drink. It leaves the blood through Urine, stool, and sweat.

Normal Range:

A normal blood sodium level is between 135 and 145 (mEq/L).

Preparation:

No special preparation. A blood sample was taken, and a Urine sample was taken.

Procedure In Blood:

Collect 3 to 5ml blood samples in the Green top tube because the Green top tube contains lithium heparin. Centrifuge the blood sample and separate the serum. Plasma or serum is use for test on an advanced analyzer.

Procedure In Urine:

Collect the 3 to 5ml urine into the urine container and sent it to the laboratory for further analysis by using a strip of urine.

Results:

Result range from normal to abnormal.

Normal Results:

Normal result for this test are 135 to 145 mEq/L Different laboratories use different values for “normal”.

Abnormally low level:

An abnormally low level of blood sodium level lower than 135 mEq/L is called hyponatremia It may have Symptoms:

  • Fatigue
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Headache
  • Loss of appetite
  • Loss of Consciousness or coma
